History of the Greater Nevada Credit Union
It was a relatively chilly day on Jan. 24, 1949, in Carson City, Nevada, with a high of 24 °F and a low of 13 °F, and modest breezes making it feel much colder, though otherwise a seemingly innocent Monday in the state’s capital city.
And yet, a historic event was taking place that would affect generations to come.
From that day onwards, a handful of state government workers, who had spent weeks of their personal time and energy finding a locally based cooperative to help meet the financial needs of its members, received the official charter for the Nevada State Employees Federal Credit Union.
The founders of the Greater Nevada Credit Union back in 1949 could not have dreamed that their credit union would grow to more than 68,000 members and over $965 million in assets with a branch footprint that extends well beyond it’s Carson City roots.
